My latest release and Book One of the “Kyle in Hollywood” series is now published. It's the prequel to Scot Free in Hollywood (Book Three is in the works). As a launch special, the book will be available for FREE for three days, starting sometime on November 4th (Saturday). So grab a copy to read now or for “the long winter evenings” as Wooster said to Jeeves. If you've read Scot Free in Hollywood, you will not want to miss the back-story. If you haven't, even better, you can read both in the optimal sequence, although each book is a stand-alone. Available from any Amazon site. I think this novel turned out much better than anticipated when I started writing it, false modesty aside, and I learnt a valuable lesson about writing prequels: DON'T. Avoid if at all possible. Just creating a logical timeline for both took two whole days, although the challenge was fun in its own way. I hope you will conclude that it was worth doing! As usual, if you enjoyed any of my books, please consider leaving a short review. Cheers!

Well, here we are. I'm ready to go directly to the publishing phase, but once again the busy editors at Kindle Scout are taking their time releasing the title back to me. Since we are approaching the 10th day of 15, I expect to hear by the end of the week at the latest. Meanwhile I wanted to let you all know that I've decided to throw in a couple of days of free download to thank those who have nominated Kyle Harrison Movie Star, and to encourage anyone not familiar with my writing to have a look. Usually I never give away my books, but it seemed like the thing to do as this title has received so many page views during the campaign. I'll publish the free days here as soon as I know when that will be. Comments, feedback and, especially, Amazon and Goodreads reviews would make my day, so I hope the sheer brilliance of the writing will motivate some of you to post a few lines (brilliance is, of course, in the eye of the beholder and, if you think it's brilliant, I will certainly be beholding!) Kyle Harrison is not a typical romcom. There is romance, there is humour (at least I hope you will find some amusement in the story), but there is also a good dose of social commentary based on my own experiences and observations from many years ago. With the recent power abuse scandal rocking the very core of the Hollywood apple, I find myself horrified to discover that the old gossip about the "casting couch" culture is not only accurate, but that it reveals a rotten core a thousand times more disgusting than I could imagine. In the series "Kyle in Hollywood" my hero acts, risking his career and his freedom, whenever he is aware of sexual abuse. One can only wish that more real people had done the same when the situation called for affirmative action, instead of voicing shock and surprise (and, even worse, regret) decades after the fact. So, if you feel like a break from the depressing reality, let Kyle's adventures entertain you with a more optimistic take on the fascinating world of movie making. Books 1 and 2 are already published, and I'm busy working on Book 3, with a tentative release date of early next year, if not sooner. Subscribe to my newsletter to receive advance notification of promotions and new releases, and to get free content. Also remember that I promised a link to Soundcloud for my Nashville-produced song, which my character Randy Riley composes in the book. Details in the "Thank You" email from Kindle Scout. Finally finished! Book 1 of the “Kyle in Hollywood” series has started its 30-day Kindle Scout campaign, and it's open for nominations. You can read a generous extract on the campaign page. If you think this is the sort of book that Amazon should publish, please leave your nomination. Here is the link: https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/JG08ILDZMGV9 Super easy to do: click the blue button <Nominate Me> while being logged into your Amazon account. If the manuscript is successful, you will receive a free Kindle copy of the published book. And please feel free to involve your friends, the more nominations the better! My latest romantic thriller set in Venice, “Night of the Webcam” is now available! Discounted to 99 cents (down from $3.99) as a thank-you to all the lovely supporters who nominated it during its Kindle Scout campaign. Available in paperback and as eBook at Amazon, Apple's iStore, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, Scribd, Playster, Inktera, Tolino and 24Symbols. Grab a copy and let me know what you think. Thank you! Robertson Today is the last day for “Night of the Webcam” on Kindle Scout. Things have picked up considerably since my last post, and the book is receiving a lot of attention. Please take a moment to check out the excerpt and nominate it before the end of its campaign tonight at midnight. Here is the link to the Scout Campaign page for “Night of the Webcam” and remember that, if the book is selected, everyone who nominated it will get a free copy of the Kindle version. https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/1GJVCF3MFH36X Thank you! Robertson Well I'm into the last five days of the Kindle Scout campaign thing, and I have to admit the nominations are thin on the ground. Once a book drops off that “Recently Added” high-visibility page, that happens, and I didn't go all-out with paid advertising, so no surprise there. Actually, this campaign started out with some pretty respectable “pageviews”: 135 on Day One, then 176, 139 and so on but then gradually descending. I resisted the urge to bug friends and contacts with more postings, but as we near the end of the 30 days, I ask that you bolster my final chances of gaining a nomination and rescue my romantically-inclined thriller/mystery from the depths of Venice Lagoon where it is in danger of sinking. Here is the link to the Scout Campaign page for “Night of the Webcam” and do bear in mind that, if the book is selected by Amazon, a free copy of the Kindle version goes to everyone who nominated it. You can read a fairly long excerpt from it just below that Nominate Me box on the site. https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/1GJVCF3MFH36X Thank you! Your support is much appreciated, and I only hope my writings might provide some distraction from the terrible events of recent weeks. My thoughts are very much with Manchester and London. Robertson So I was sitting watching a sunny Grand Canal, Venice, and it was looking just Grand indeed, and then I switched over to another webcam offered by the same service, and here was Piazza di Spagna in Rome with those fabulous Spanish Steps (if you wonder why they call them Spanish, I do have a piece in my romcom novel “Scot Free in Hollywood” that explains exactly how they came to be called The Spanish Steps) – anyway, anyway, I'm watching the Piazza di Spagna with those great terracotta and ochre tints to the ancient buildings, and I started to wonder about just how much one can see of life on a webcam like that. And, letting my imagination explore the possibilities, I contemplated the chance that you could, in fact, witness a crime happening right there before your eyes. What would you do about it? I mean, think about it – you're sitting there with your morning coffee, and you witness a crime ... pretty unsettling, right? But what can you do about it? Certainly nothing to change the outcome, and it's a strange feeling to think of what one could see on a webcam. And so my writing mind pondered the idea of a story set around just such an event, and then it grew to where my unquenchable romance thing butted in (and I use the word advisedly), and voilà we have “Night of the Webcam” launched today on the ever-illustrious Amazon Kindle Scout program. Now, those kind folks at Amazon love to see activity and interest, by way of Nominations and so, IF you felt inclined to read the 5000 word sample beginning of “Night of the Webcam” and subsequently give it a nomination (if you felt it worthy), I'm sure they and I would be delighted. I suppose here I should make clear that in my books I don't write in this rambling mayhem of thoughts style – no, that's just how I infrequently dive back into my blog – but I should also say that I DO respond to my blog comments, so if you want to ask me about my writing or such – fire away. Here's the link to the Kindle Scout “Night of the Webcam” campaign where you can read the excerpt and, I hope, click the blue 'Nominate Me' button at the lower right of the box with the cover image. https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/1GJVCF3MFH36X And speaking of Kindle Scout, I was miffed to see a few glitches (words ran together, spaces in front of accented letters) that were certainly not there in my submission, and will NOT be there in the final book. Software conversion issues, I imagine. Oh well ... The book is a combo of mystery, thriller and romance with some hot sex and enough bad guys to make it interesting, AND I've got great locations ...oh yes, I do. Cheers, all the best
Following my recent Kindle Scout campaign, I have launched “Scot Free in Hollywood” on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback versions. A lot of work, however, fairly enjoyable, especially with the new jazzy cover making me smile every time I look at it. These past two weeks I have been working hard at this new caper of self-promotion.
My first book of romantic short stories was published two years ago, but the idea of promoting it never really entered my head. However, it seems essential for any new release. So this is a new challenge for me, and today I had a very nice surprise: I have been hand-picked by BookHippo.uk as a Featured Author! Apart from having the coolest badge ever which I get to post here, I am thrilled with the exposure they have given my book. And if you think this is just small-time stuff, take a look at the big names who are featured alongside yours truly. I am really in great company! Just completed my first YouTube book trailer video for my collection of short stories, and I think it's brilliant but, on second thoughts, I'm sure it's brilliant. But then I would, wouldn't I? And I think my copy editor on the book did an excellent job putting the video together. Being a perfectionist, she has now created an improved version. I'd be very pleased if you could take a look, and I would be interested to hear any feedback, either here through the "Comments" option, or on YouTube itself. Hope you like it! And … I had this new whiz-bang idea of reading (or narrating) the shortest of my stories in this collection, “Tobago”, which would be easily done in three short, 4-minute videos. I shall now go and brush up my actor's narrating voice. BIG NEWS! My latest book “Scot Free in Hollywood” has been accepted into Amazon's Kindle Scout program. My 30-day campaign got off to an auspicious start in the early hours of the New Year, on 1st January 2017. You can read all about it and peruse an extract from the campaign page. And, if you think this is the sort of book that Amazon should publish, please leave your nomination. Here is the link: https://kindlescout.amazon.com/p/27KJ4PTQN36YU It is literally just a question of clicking the blue button <Nominate Me> while being logged into your Amazon account. No forms to fill in, and no personal information required. If the manuscript is successful, you will receive a free Kindle copy of the published book. And please feel free to share with your friends, the more nominations the better! |
